Overview

  • The project involved launching Audi’s first fully electric vehicle, the e-Tron, in the USA. The project was managed globally across four different time zones with communication being essential. The e-Tron had its own landing, model detail, and specification pages, with the booking flow being the major functionality. The booking flow involved registering an account, selecting specifications, adding card details, and confirming the booking. Users could manage and cancel their bookings via their accounts.
  • An admin portal allowed for managing all e-Tron bookings, including cancelling bookings, monitoring statuses, issuing refunds, and analyzing analytics.

Challenges

  • As the e-tron model was being launched for the first time anywhere in the world, it was essential to ensure that all the functionalities related to the e-tron booking flow, managing the booking on the user’s profile, and the admin portal were working as expected. Testing all these functionalities was a challenge as it involved testing multiple scenarios and required a lot of effort and time.
  • Integration Testing: The e-tron booking flow and the user’s profile management functionality was integrated with the backend systems, such as payment gateways, user database, and inventory management. Ensuring that all these systems were integrated and worked seamlessly was a challenge.
  • As the user’s card details were being collected during the e-Tron booking flow, it was important to ensure that the website was secure and there were no vulnerabilities that could have led to data theft or breaches.
  • As the website would be receiving a high volume of traffic during the launch of the e-tron model, it was important to ensure that the website could handle the load and perform well under high-traffic conditions.
  • We had to ensure that the website was performing well and responding quickly to user actions. It was important to test the website’s performance under different conditions to ensure that it met the expected performance benchmarks.
  • The project was being managed across four different time zones, communication and coordination had to be quick and efficient. It was important to ensure that all the stakeholders were on the same page and had a common understanding of the project requirements and timelines.

Solution & Strategy

  • Functionality Testing: To ensure that all the functionalities related to the e-tron booking flow, managing the booking on the user’s profile, and the admin portal are working as expected, we created a comprehensive test plan that covered all the scenarios related to these functionalities.
  • Integration Testing: To ensure that all the systems are integrated and working seamlessly, we performed end-to-end testing of the e-tron booking flow and the user’s profile management functionality.
  • We incorporated various out-of-the-box scenarios to see if there were any underlying bugs, also we extensively tested the site’s booking form to verify all sorts of data was thoroughly checked
  • It was also necessary to check there were no duplications in the form of bookings and other overlapping information, and that each account was issued a unique booking ID.
  • Communication and Coordination: To ensure effective communication and coordination across different time zones, the QA team can use collaboration tools such as Slack or Microsoft Teams to stay connected. They can also use agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban to ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goals.
